EN81.20 RULES
The new EN81.20 has the requisites to complete the installation of passengers lifts and goods lift which are independent from the runner system.
On the cabin roof and in the pit compartment there must always be:

1. A stopping device (STOP) – INSPECTION KEYBOARD CABIN ROOF

2. An inspection commutator to be activated in less than 0,3 m from a shelter space – II° INSPECTION KEYBOARD IN THE PIT

The inspection keyboard must be made of:
a) a commutator (in order to control the operation) which must satisfy the indications for electric safety devices.This commutator, which has to be double-stable, has to be protected by involuntary activation;
b) direction keys “ASCENT” and “DESCENT”, protected by involuntary activations and with a clearly specified direction of the movement;
c) a key “CONSENT” protected by involuntary activations;
d) a stopping device.

The inspection control panel can include special switches protected by involuntary activation, in order to control the mechanism of the cabin’s roof doors. The inspection control panel must have a minimum protection grade IPXXD (EN 60529).

Return to the normal lift operation

The return to the normal lift operation must be done only by commuting the control switch to “normal” position. An addictional return to normal operation controlled by the inspection control panel must be done only in the following conditions:
a) The floor doors which give access to the pit are closed and locked;
b) all the stopping devices in the pit are inactive;
c) the electric reinstatement device outside the compartment is active:
1. with connection to the emergency unlock key of the door to the pit, or
2. accessible only to authorized people, for example inside a locked closet in immediate vicinity of the door to the pit. Precautions must be taken to avoid any involuntary movement of the cabin during the inspection operation.
The cabin movement in the inspection phase must only depend on the constant pressure on the key “CONSENT” and in a sole direction. The “CONSENT” key and a direction key can be activated with only one hand.

The safety electric device in the inspection operation my be bypassed by one of the following solutions:

a) a series connection of a direction and the “CONSENT” key. These keys must belong to the following categories, as specified in the norm EN 60947-5-1: 2004:
• AC-15 for safety contacts included in circuits A.C.
• DC-13 for safety contacts included in circuits D.C.
The duration is at least 1.000.000 operative mechanical and electrical cycles related to the applied load.

b) a safety electric device which is monitoring the correct direction operation and the “CONSENT” key.
